The iDA (iReports Data Agent) is specifically designed to securely and
reliably extract, then send business intelligence data from your
applications and data sources to your iWebGate Portal Server where the
reporting engine will construct and deliver reports in a secure
permission – based folder structure for you.
It is important to note that an iDA can be installed and obtain
information from multiple applications and/or data sources and from
multiple locations. As an example, you can install an iDA in your
local office and also at your interstate office or a step even further
at your client’s office to meet complex reporting needs.

Once installed:
1. Authenticate with an iWebGate Portal Server
The iDA will only function through an iWebGate Portal Server to ensure
that your data is never sent to unauthorised locations. If your iWebGate
Portal Server is installed locally, data will be sent with speed and
reliability with no sensitive data ever leaving your network. If
information is being sent to a portal server sitting externally, then
all communication is done over a secure connection (i.e. HTTPS/SSL).

2. Obtain data sets
Once your iDA authenticates with your iWebGate Portal Server(s), all
of the data sets that were installed in the portal are downloaded.
Essentially the data sets obtain all of the information (i.e. SQL
queries) that are necessary to obtain the information from the
applications and data sources in your network which will be used to
compile the reports.
Once the data sets have been downloaded to your local iDA, you assign a
‘Data Source’ to provide the iDA with access for extracting your data.
The iDA utilises the popular ‘ODBC’ framework allowing connectivity
and data extraction from almost all database vendors on the market.
The iDA also provides a mechanism to ‘Preview’ your extracted data
inside the iDA prior to the data being sent to your portal.
This preview allows you to ensure you only send the data required and
nothing more. Additionally this ‘previewed’ data can be exported for
review in HTML, XML or CSV formats.

3. Schedule times to send information
For every data set you have the ability to schedule when
information is to be sent to your iWebGate Portal Server. Information
can be sent automatically at predefined times (e.g. time, day, week,
month) or sent manually using the ‘run now option’.
This allows complete flexibility for controlling when your data is
made available to your portal.

4. Auditing, System Reporting
The iDA tracks events relating to application and transaction logs.
These logs can be sent to our support system allowing us to analyse
any technical support issues you may encounter. Additionally a fully
featured Feedback, Features and Bug System is built right into the
iDA.
In terms of keeping up to date with the latest version, you have the
ability to update your version of the iDA without needing any CD-ROM
installation or manually having to download any installation programs.
It is also important to note that iWebgate can never access your local
iDA logs or transaction history. Our automated support system can
only be triggered manually by your authorised staff. |
